Micron Man was founded in 1988 at the home of Wayne & Jo Marshall, 10 kms north of Toodyay, in our son’s (Aaron) converted bedroom using the CSIRO Sonic B wool tester for flock testing for local farmers. Our original rate was $2.20 per sample for a Micron & Yield test.

In those days we had no mains power and relied solely on an old Ronaldson & Tippett diesel engine driving a 5Kva generator for household power. Ronaldson & Tippett engines have been used up until recently on conveyors at some of the wheat bins around the state of W.A.

With the low price for wool over the following years we slowly grew from part-time to a self supporting business that developed more rapidly when we purchased an OFDA in late 1994 for the additional CV & Prickle information that could be provided. In 1997, we had to move out of the house as all the rooms were being filled with machinery and/or wool.

A workshop/shed was erected adjacent to the house and we were pleased with about 90 square metres of work space. In mid 1998 we were offered some research work with the OFDA 2000 if we moved to Perth. So in late 1999 we transferred the business to the Bibra Lake industrial area with a leased unit of about 200 square metres in area for possible expansion. We are now conducting production work as usual with a research arm being developed currently looking at the OFDA 2000.
